The meeting, which will take place from Nov. 3-9 at the Tampa Convention Center, provides engineers with a venue to present work that can potentially solve critical, real-world challenges in health care, transportation, space exploration, product design, manufacturing and many other fields.This years IMECE technical program will feature 20 technical tracks encompassing more than 400 sessions that address such fields as acoustics, vibration and phononics advanced manufacturing aerospace technology biom edical and biotechnology engineering dynamics, vibration and control education and globalization emerging technologies energy fluids engineering heat transfer and thermal engineering materials mechanics of solids, structures and fluids micro- and nano-systems engineering and packaging safety engineering and risk analysis systems, design and complexity transportations systems and non-destructive evaluation (NDE), structural health monitoring and prognosis.IMECE 2017 will also feature more than 20 technical track plenary sessions, to be held Nov. 7 and 8, including the Ralph Coats Roe Medal Lecture, The Evolution of Everything, by ASME Fellow Adrian Bejan, the J.A. Jones distinguished professor of mechanical engineering at Duke University, ASME Honorary Member and the 2017 Ralph Coats Roe Medal winner. Dr. Bejans lecture, which will explore the concept of evolution and why it exists in the geophysical, biological, social and technological realms, will take place from 800 a.m. to 945 a .m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7. ASME Honorary Member Adrian Bejan, winner of the 2017 Ralph Coats Roe Medal, will deliver the Ralph Coats Roe Medal Lecture on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the ASME 2017 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition.Other plenary presentations to be offered during IMECE include Symmetry and Reciprocity Breaking in Electromechanical Metamaterials and Structural Lattices by ASME Fellow Massimo Ruzzene of Georgia Tech Advanced Manufacturing in the Lightweighting of Military Ground Vehicles by Ravi Thyagarajan of the United States Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) The Role of Composites in Avian Inspired Morphing UAVs by ASME Fellow Daniel Inman of the University of Michigan Interfacing Humans and Machines Robotic Exoskeletons, Bionic Prostheses, and Mobile Brain Imaging by Daniel P. Ferris of the University of Florida Diversity in Global Engineering Education by Esther Akinlabi of the University of Johannesburg Sol ar Energy and Photovoltaic Technologies U.S. Department of Energy Perspectives on Mechanical Engineering Research and Development Opportunities by Marie Mape of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office Materials Processing Control Using Electric and Magnetic Fields by ASME Fellow George S. Dulikravich of Florida International University and Mechanics of Biological Cells in Human Health and Disease by ASME Fellow Subra Suresh of Nanyang Technological University Singapore and former director of the National Science Foundation (NSF).Three of the IMECE tracks will be dedicated poster sessions.
